Supplements for dancers
Useful or unnecessary? Before we look at nutritional supplements, it is important to emphasize that a balanced diet is the basis for a dancer's health and performance.
Individually tailored to your needs
Every dancer has individual needs and dietary requirements. A diet rich in fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish and pulses usually covers most of the nutritional needs. In some cases, however, nutritional supplements can be a useful addition, e.g. during intensive training or on certain diets or when the intake of nutrients through food is limited, e.g. due to abstinence, intolerances or allergies.
Dietary supplements commonly used by dancers include:
Proteins - To support muscle building and regeneration
Vitamins and minerals - Iron, calcium and vitamin D are particularly important for dancers
Omega-3 fatty acids - To support joint health and reduce inflammation
Keatin: Can increase short-term performance
Important note: Before you start taking any dietary supplements, you should always consult your doctor or nutritionist.
