Nutrition rethought: More than just food

Nutrition is the process by which we consume food to provide our bodies with the necessary nutrients. These nutrients give us energy, help in the growth and repair of cells, and support all the functions of our body.

What does our diet actually include?

Macronutrients

are the main components of our food and provide us with energy:

  • Carbohydrates

  • Proteins

  • Fats

Micronutrients

are needed in smaller quantities in the body, but are equally important for numerous body functions:

  • Vitamins

  • Minerals

Water

Is essential for life and makes up a large part of our body.

So what does this mean for dancers?

Dancers' diets should be individually tailored and supplemented appropriately. The high energy requirements that arise from intensive training require a targeted supply of nutrients. Protein is particularly important for building and maintaining muscles. To ensure optimal performance during training, food should be easily digestible. In addition, adequate fluid intake is essential to provide the body with sufficient fluids. Find specific examples of foods and their use in our blog.
